Sudan Officials visits Wales as part of the arts project

Top officials from Sudan are visiting Wales this week as part of the Arts call for Darfur project. Official delegation of visitors representing cultural, artistic and media organisations of Sudan, including the Minister of Culture (South Darfur) are joining forces with the Arts Call for Darfur project in an exciting new partnership to take place both in Wales and the Sudan.

Mr Mohamed Khair, Minister of Culture for South Darfur said: "We are very happy to be here to see this exhibition and to visit Wales and see the many attractions of Cardiff. The Arts Call for Darfur project enables us to make the situation in Darfur more aware to other people in Wales, and around the world. We hope that the exhibition, artists and people involved with the project will be able to visit us in Sudan in March to continue the good work."

MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING

Mr Mohamed Khair – Minister of Culture for South Darfur

In response to my visit and overview of the Arts Call for Darfur project, focus group and the arts in .Wales.

In order to allow them to be effective with the crisis in Darfur, I have attended as Minister of Culture for South Darfur, the exhibition in Cardiff and met with everyone involved. I would like to express my thanks and gratitude to everyone involved and, after seeing the positive outcomes of the project, I fully endorse it in every way possible. After seeing the exhibition and its relevance to the crisis, I have invited the exhibition to the Sudan to be exhibited in Niyala and Khartoum alongside the provision of several art workshops.

To recognize the Welsh arts efforts towards the humanitarianism crisis in Darfur I have also invited everyone involved in the Welsh project to come to Darfur to see the situation for themselves. I believe this is a way of also attracting Sudanese artists to become involved in the project and contribute to its goal of helping with the current dire situation. These efforts will help to ease the situation by use of cultural means, specifically from an arts perspective.

I have agreed as Minister of Culture for South Darfur to facilitate for a delegation and an exhibition to come to Darfur in March. The proposed dates for this are from the 19th to the 29th 2008.

The aim of the project is to collaborate a partnership between Arts Call for Darfur Wales and the Ministry of Culture, Education and Health in South Darfur.

I also agree to market the project by touring the exhibition locally in Darfur, nationally in the Sudan and internationally throughout the world.

Arts call for Darfur is an ongoing project aimed at raising money for both Save the Children in Darfur and for the arts in Wales and the Sudan.

I, Mr Mohamed Khair, Minister of Culture for South Darfur, appreciate the effort that has already been undertaken in Wales of the peaceful processes and activities of the focus group and artists, and I look forward to forming a 5 year long term development plan encompassing culture, education and health in the Sudan that will be developed when we meet during the visit in March.

Mr Mohamed Khair
